Modpack overrides (Minecraft: Java Edition)

While it is possible to upload completely custom modpacks, sometimes it is easier to customize one of our premade modpacks instead. Modpack overrides allow you to do just that by adding files on top of the normal modpack server files.

This feature is limited during the free trial of exaroton.

When to use overrides?

While overrides are more limited than uploading an entirely custom modpack, they are also easier to use and allow your modpack server to still be updated to newer versions automatically. If you'd like to play one of our premade modpacks but want to add another mod (e.g. a voice chat mod) or customize a config file, using overrides is the way to go.

If you want to play a modpack that is not in our list or make large changes to an existing modpack, you should upload it as a custom modpack instead.

Warning: This is an advanced feature meant for people experienced in setting up and running modded Minecraft servers. It is your responsibility to make sure that the files you override are valid and compatible with the base modpack files. We cannot guarantee support for issues arising from adding invalid overrides.

Creating overrides

Overrides can be created in any exaroton server that uses a premade modpack. To get started, open the Files page and create a new folder called overrides in the main directory of your server.

The files within the overrides folder will override the files of the base modpack. For example, if you create a config folder inside the overrides folder and add a file called create-common.toml to it, this file will overwrite the config/create-common.toml in the modpack files.

While this example uses a config file, overrides can be applied to any other server file as well.

Adding mods

Mods can be added by creating a mods folder inside the overrides folder and uploading your mod files to it. Naming a file exactly like an existing mod file will replace the existing mod in the modpack.

Modpack updates

Premade modpacks on exaroton are updated automatically. Overrides are kept when the modpack is updated but might need to be adjusted to work correctly with the new version.

If your modpack server no longer works correctly after an update, you should create a backup and temporarily delete the overrides folder to check if the issue is caused by your overrides.
