To keep your world safe and prevent data loss, we recommend creating backups of your server regularly. You can connect different cloud storage accounts, e.g. Google Drive, to your exaroton server and store as many backups as you want.
If you run out of credits to pay the storage fee, your server will be removed from your exaroton account. To make sure you don’t lose your progress, we recommend enabling backups. This way, you can restore your server anytime in the future! You can learn more about storage in our pricing article.
Link a new backup service
Backup services are linked to your exaroton account and can then be added to your server. You can link new backup services on the account page or on the backups page of your server.
Currently available backup services are:

To link a new service, click on the button on the account or backups page and follow the authorization process. If you've already linked backup services to your server, you have to click on the "+" button and then on "Link" to select a service on the backups page. After that, you should be able to see your backup service account on the account page in the "Backup services" section.
You can link multiple accounts from each backup service to your exaroton account.
You can unlink backup services from your account by clicking on the "Unlink" button on the account page next to the service. This will only remove the link between the backup service and your exaroton account. This will not delete any backups.
Make sure to enable this checkbox when linking your Google Drive account.
Add a backup service to a server
Backup services are only used for your server if you've added them to your server as well. This allows you to decide which backup service you want to use for which server. It also allows your friends to link their backup services to your server if you give them shared access with the "Backups" permission.
To add backup services, click the "+" button on the backups page of your server.
Select one or multiple backup services to add to the server. You can also link new backup services here.
Sort backup services
The order of your backup services for a server is used to determine which service is used for automatic backups. The first service is used until its storage is full, and then the next possible backup service is used. You can always select which service you want to use for manual backups.
You can sort the backup services by clicking on the edit/pencil icon next to the services and then using the arrow keys to move the current service.
Remove a backup service from a server
You can remove a backup service from a server by clicking the edit/pencil icon next to the services and then clicking on the red "X". This will only remove the backup service from that server, it will not unlink the service from your exaroton account, and it will not delete any backups.
Create a backup
To save your server’s current state, click "Create Backup." This will include all world data, player data, settings, and any plugins, mods, add-ons, or datapacks. Depending on your server's size, the backup process may take a few minutes. If you like, you can enter a custom name for your backup before clicking the create button. You can also select the backup service that you want to store the backup in using the dropdown on the right.
Create backups automatically
You can configure your server to create backups automatically when it's stopped. This can be enabled on the backups page at the top right.
To avoid creating too many unnecessary backups when you are starting and stopping your server a lot, there is a minimum time between automatic backups that you can configure between 6 and 48 hours.
You can also specify the maximum number of automatic backups that you want to store for your server. When that limit is reached, the oldest automatic backup is automatically deleted. This helps to avoid filling your storage with unnecessary backups.
Automatic backups always try to fill your backup services in the order they are configured and will only start using the next backup service when the previous one is full. When all backup services are full, automatic backups can no longer be created.
Restore a backup
You can restore backups from the server backups page. If you want to restore a backup from a different server or a backup service that is currently not linked, you can restore it from the account backups page.
To restore a backup, press the "Restore" button. If you are on the account backups page, you have to select a server.
Depending on the size of your backup, this process may take a few minutes.
Restoring a backup will completely replace your current server files, including your world.
Accessing backups in your cloud storage
With Google Drive, it's not possible to view or access the stored backups in the hidden application folder. You can only remove all app data through the app Google Drive settings.
At OneDrive and Dropbox, it's possible to view the backups in the application folder.
There is a OneDrive bug that causes our backup app folder to appear with the name "Graph" instead of "exaroton Backup". You can rename that folder if that happens. This is something Microsoft has to fix and is not an issue on our end.
While you can see the backups in your application folder, it's not possible to extract or use them because they are stored in an internal format. We also verify the integrity of the file when restoring it, so modifying it is not possible.
It's highly recommended to not access the backups through the cloud storage directly and only manage them through our website.
Downloading backups
Please note: This is not officially supported; use it at your own risk.
You could download the backups from the cloud storage and store them somewhere else. You can only restore those backups if you upload them again with the same file name to the same application folder in the same backup service account. Backups that are deleted in the cloud storage will still be shown on our website. It's important to keep this entry; if you delete the backup from our website as well, it will not be possible to restore it later.
